Based on DLP technology, the Optoma HD83 projects images in a High-End Homecinema environment, with technical specs listing 1500 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 50000:1 and a HDTV 1920 x 1080 resolution. In operating mode, the installed projector lamp offers a lifespan of 3000 hours. Thanks to the combination of optical lens shift and digital keystone correction, the projected image's position can be adjusted very flexibly. The Projection Calculator helps find the optimal installation dimensions. Looking at practical performance, up to 393 cm can be illuminated with 1500 ANSI lumens in dark environments. Once daylight is in the room, the image should ideally be no wider than 262 cm. For media input, video signals up to 1080P as well as 3D are supported. A look at the data sheet confirms a very subtle fan noise for the projector at just 28 decibels. Since entering the market in 2011, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model. In our projector directory, the device still generates high interest.

I recently got the device as a replacement for my HD151X. You can clearly see where the HD83 is located, namely in the high-end home cinema class, and that‘s where it really shines. In my opinion, the HD83‘s picture is on a par with a Mitsubishi HC5, HC9000 or HC7800, apart from the absolute black level, and subjectively better than a JVC DLA X30. The 3D reproduction via the Optoma RF glasses is second to none, no ghosting, absolutely top! The lens shift could certainly have been a little more generous, but in most cases that should be enough
My conclusion: if someone is looking for a top projector for little money - every now and then you can find very well-preserved specimens for little money - just go for it, you won‘t get the HD83 cinema picture any better or cheaper!

An absolutely great device
I recently got the new HD83 from Optoma including the 3D-RF glasses and am absolutely delighted with the great picture in 2D and 3D. The lens/shift is not very large but should be sufficient in most cases.
