The hardware properties of the HD33 / B manufactured by Optoma include 1800 ANSI lumens, a HDTV 1920 x 1080 resolution and a contrast value of 10000:1. The manufacturer specifies a runtime of 3000 hours for this projector's lamp. Looking at practical performance, up to 431 cm can be illuminated with 1800 ANSI lumens in dark environments. Once daylight is in the room, the image should ideally be no wider than 287 cm. Regarding signal processing, the model is compatible with incoming 1080P content as well as 3D. Regarding noise emissions, the model proves to be exceptionally quiet during operation, producing just 30 decibels. This model dates back to 2011 and is no longer part of Optoma's current product range. This model continues to hold a solid place in our database search queries.

Basically, the HD 33 is an excellent 3D projector that you can still buy in stores. I bought it last fall as a replacement for my 2D projector from Mitsubishi. After reading some research and tests about it and seeing it in action, I knew I had to have it. It‘s not too big and therefore still suitable for living rooms, not loud but whisper-quiet and comes close to LCD projectors. The picture is really very good with the right settings. The black level can be improved with a gray filter, as already mentioned. Unfortunately, it is a little difficult to set up, so you have to make sure that it fits the room. But once it‘s hanging, the whole setting mimic doesn‘t matter anyway:

Grey filter
Hello, this isn‘t a classic review, that‘s yet to come!
BenQ, I need your help! You write that you can use a gray filter, could you please tell me exactly which one, including the diameter? What settings do I have to use when using a gray filter, would be very nice if you could help me, here is my mail: Alipakon@hotmail.com

Prima
The Optoma HD33 is a top device in this price range and can hardly be topped in this price range. I don‘t know why this device is always criticized for its black level. I think it‘s quite decent. The 2D picture is razor sharp, the colors are natural and I don‘t see any RBE that I can normally see. The 3D picture is similar to that in the cinema, brilliant, vivid, sharp down to the last detail, ghosting-free, and there‘s no juddering in either 3D or 2D and the black level is very good. The RF glasses are also great, no signal loss, lightweight, also suitable for spectacle wearers, bright or brighter compared to other shutter glasses and you can recharge them. Once charged, they last forever. So I think the Optoma HD33 can be recommended without reservation, if you are planning a relatively inexpensive entry into the "big" 3D world, this is the best choice.

Flawless
I also had the Epson Ruckelbox at first. (6000s) It‘s gone again and I‘ve dared to try the HD33, I was also worried about the RBE, so I can‘t see anything except razor-sharp images. In 2D the black level is a bit weak, but not weaker than with the Epson. The 3D picture is much better than the Epson, much more vivid, clearer and more brilliant. So that‘s it, there‘s simply no better one in this price range....

Reference device
The device is one of the reference devices in the up to 3000 Euro class. When Media Markt opened its online store, the Optoma HD33 was available for 1099 euros. We spent endless hours comparing it with a Mitsubishi HC7800. The fact is: In all disciplines, except for the black level, the device is at least equal or better. To eliminate the only weakness of the Optama HD33 (black level) in the 2D range, a gray filter was used. --> B+W gray filter 101 with ND 0.3. This investment costing approx. 35 euros raises the black level to reference level. The brightness is still more than sufficient after this tuning and all other color parameters remain the same anyway when using gray filters. The gray filter should not be used for 3D, as the Optoma is already hard to beat in this respect. No ghosting, no juddering. Any LCD jerks such as an Epson TW6000, on the other hand, are a disaster. We hope we have helped many others with their purchase decision. The Optoma HD 33 is a super device.

Hammer device
Can‘t imagine that you can find anything better in this price range. I also panicked about the RBE, I saw it and I‘m kind of sensitive to it. Now, after over 30 hours of operation, I can‘t see it at all, it‘s somehow gone. It wasn‘t so clearly visible from the start, but now it‘s gone. The picture in 2D is awesome, absolutely smooth (in between I had the TW5900 from Epson= is a jerking machine in 2D and a jerker and ghoster in 3D), with the HD33 there is no picture jerking in 2D or 3D and "0" ghosting in 3D. The picture is extremely sharp and brilliant in both modes. Setting it up is a bit tricky, but once it hangs, it hangs. Of course, there are projectors that can do even more and everything better, but they also cost at least twice as much. A great 2D and even better 3D picture is actually enough for me. My Samsung Plasma PS50C7790 doesn‘t work for movies, because it can‘t even come close to being better and in 3D it doesn‘t even have a chance of keeping up due to ghosting and a much smaller picture.
Top beamer, not cheap, but quite reasonable for the price-performance ratio, if not even better.

HD33
Price/performance unbeatable with this projector.
3D in perfection. With the purchase of good hardware, achieving high-end is no longer a dream.
Compliments to Optoma.
As the title already describes, the Optoma homepage does indeed mention FullHD resolution in 3D mode.

I have just sent back the Epson TW 6000 because it jerked far too much due to the lack of frame interpolation. The HD 33 is now my next choice. The only annoying thing is the rather high offset of 24 cm at my projector distance.

Great 3D projector
The new Optoma HD33 is a great 3D projector, and impresses with its really top-class WLAN 3D glasses and first-class 3D reproduction. I also saw the device in comparison with a TW6000 and was really impressed with how good the picture is compared to the Epson.

According to the data sheet, it only does 720p in 3D. 1080p only in 2D.
