Model Overview As a projector for the High-End Homecinema sector, the Sony VPL VW60 (Black Pearl) is equipped with 1000 ANSI lumens, a HDTV 1920 x 1080 resolution and a contrast of 35000:1. The manufacturer specifies a runtime of 2000 hours for this projector's lamp.
For distortion-free image alignment, the projector offers both a lens shift function and keystone correction. The amount of leeway the lens provides can be checked in the Projector Calculator.
Regarding projection size, the value of 1000 ANSI lumens allows for an image width of up to 321 cm in darkened environments. In rooms with ambient light, the image width should be correspondingly reduced to a maximum of 214 cm.
In terms of video signals, the device processes resolutions up to Full HD 1080P.
A look at the data sheet confirms a very subtle fan noise for the projector at just 22 decibels. The projector was released in 2007 and is officially no longer distributed by Sony. As an archive device, the projector remains highly relevant in our database.

5 Stars Langzeiterfahrungen? Rumors: SXRD has a negative effect on efficiency stability
I was able to marvel at it in the darkened home cinema back room of a store!
--> absolutely impressive picture quality! I‘ve never experienced anything like it in a movie theater! But has anyone had any long-term experience with this SXRD technology? For example, an employee of pipro.de claimed that they had just run a VPL-VW50 at 800 hours lamp life and had already noticed extreme light intensity and loss of contrast. (However, he said it wasn‘t the lamp, you had already tried it with a new one). (Incidentally, it was a DLP fan I had on the phone)
But I‘ve also read similar things in other forums...
Similar to LCOS technology, the liquid crystal supposedly causes extreme light loss after prolonged use
Can anyone here confirm this? I think this is a rumor, which would also mean extreme losses for Sony, somehow I can‘t imagine!
Thanks for your answers! Greetings and praise to this wonderful and very helpful projector comparison site!

5 Stars Smearing is not an issue
I‘ve watched about 70 movies on it so far. The projector has no real weaknesses. On the contrary, it masters all tasks with bravura. The response times of the SXRD panel are absolutely top-notch. But that‘s down to the film. That‘s why it makes sense to watch a few animated films, such as Ratatouille, because there is no motion blur in such films as they were created on the computer. All I can say is that it‘s a great projector.

3 Stars Smearing?
Hello,
How does it perform with fast sideways movements?
Is there visible smearing? motion blur?

5 Stars Better than in the cinema
I operate the projector with the PS3 via a 15 meter long HDMI cable. My screen is 300 cm or 294 cm wide and masked to 16:9 with a gain of 1.2. The picture quality is phenomenal if you have made the right settings. Thanks to the SXRD technology, there is no fly screen pattern to be seen. The picture is bright, incredibly rich in contrast and natural in color. The blacks are deeper than I have ever seen on any other projector. The sharpness of detail, combined with the great contrast on Blu-Ray, is absolutely amazing and better than in the cinema. This creates a very vivid picture, a kind of 3D effect. It also projects well-produced DVDs in outstanding quality. The noise level is not as good as I had hoped, but it is perfectly acceptable. The remote control has direct access to almost all the important functions. I can‘t say anything about the other inputs. Apart from the VGA, I don‘t think they‘re superfluous, as a projector of this quality should only be fed with the best quality. For high-resolution videos via HDMI, I give it a score of 1+.
The Sony VPL-VW60 has become my final projector and is really highly recommended.

5 Stars Simply awesome
I‘ve had the Black Pearl for 4 weeks now and can‘t find anything really bad about the device, the settings in the menu are very extensive and a bit too much of a good thing for a layman. I can‘t confirm the negative reviews of the Pal picture in many tests, unless you feed in an analog PAL TV picture, but these are terrible on any projector. With a good DVD player with upscale (1080p) function, DVDs are, with a few exceptions, simply more perfect than ever before. The picture is breathtaking, especially in HD.
Before I had a Sony VW 11 HT which already had a very good but not very high-contrast picture, but now, I don‘t want any better.
The remote control is great, intuitive and clear.
The fan is only slightly annoying at full power, but you don‘t need it and can choose.
I would definitely buy the projector again.

5 Stars VPL VW 60
After 2 years of owning a VPL VW 100 Ruby, I received a Black Pearl as an exchange unit due to some technical problems with this device.
Apart from the unfortunately audible fan noise (ceiling mounting), I am satisfied with the replacement.
Higher contrast, more brightness and the natural color reproduction of the Black Pearl have convinced me and prompted me to give the Black Pearl 100 points.

5 Stars Perfect down to (almost) the last detail!
Sony named it Black Pearl and for good reason! By far the best black level paired with the highest contrast of 11500:1 (in-picture contrast)!!! No LCD projector has ever managed that before, so I‘m happy to throw my old tube projector in the trash! SORRY, but that‘s the way of the times
The picture is breathtakingly detailed, especially with HDTV playback
Extreme picture smoothness and a splendor of color that you rarely see

But why only almost? Despite all the praise, I can‘t give it full marks because it‘s easy to lose track of the setting options and unfortunately there is no sensible factory setting

But once you‘ve done it, you‘ll be rewarded with a picture that could hardly be better!
