The projector VPL SW235 by Sony operates as a Laser-LCD device with 3000 ANSI lumens, a WXGA 1280 x 800 resolution and a contrast of 3000:1. According to Sony, the lamp has a durability of 4000 hours – mathematically sufficient for 5.5 years based on two hours of use per day. The short-throw capabilities allow for large images at a short projection distance. According to specifications, a 2-meter wide image requires a distance of only 92 cm. Regarding projection size, the value of 3000 ANSI lumens allows for an image width of up to 556 cm in darkened environments. In rooms with ambient light, the image width should be correspondingly reduced to a maximum of 371 cm. Regarding signal processing, the model is compatible with incoming 1080P content. For integration into professional environments, an RJ45 connection is available for network control and remote maintenance. The projector was released in 2014 and is officially no longer distributed by Sony.
