The Sony VPL AW10 is a LCD projector that brings 1100 ANSI lumens, a HDTV 1280 x 720 resolution alongside a contrast of 6000:1. According to Sony, the included lamp lasts up to 2000 hours. A look at the light output reveals: The 1100 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 337 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 225 cm. In terms of video signals, the device processes resolutions up to Full HD 1080P. This model dates back to 2007 and is no longer part of Sony's current product range. In our projector directory, the device still generates high interest. For your information: Compatible lamps for this device are no longer available in stores.
Super projector, bought it cheaply on Ebay, as I prefer to buy cheap "outdated" top models rather than a new cheap projector. I was really impressed, super quiet and very nice picture
Unfortunately it gave up the ghost after the fans got clogged with dust.
I always thought the air filter would prevent this, until I saw after disassembling it that the air filter is only responsible for cooling the lens channels etc., all the other fans were unfortunately so clogged with dust that parts of the electronics probably overheated.
Although the ECO fan mode is inaudibly quiet, I recommend setting the ventilation to "High", as less dust will probably settle.

Compatible lamps?
Very good projector, just a bit big. Volume great, picture great. In addition, 720p is more than enough for home theater applications.
Just wondering if anyone knows which compatible lamps would be recommended for the projector, as the original lamps are very expensive (300€).

Hi after almost 2 years I‘m here again
got the BEAMER on 7.11.07 & have now 2140 hours on the bulb
according to the manufacturer -> SONY the BIRN lasts 2000 hours but it still lasts
over 140 hours more ....No change in picture, contrast, brightness ect.
runs like since the first day
also top device & only recommendable .....

I bought the Sony vpl aw 10 a few months ago.
All in one I think: very good device at a low price.
What bothers me, however, is the constant beeping and the not quite so rich colors...
Maybe I‘m just stupid and don‘t manage to find the right color ratio.
Have you perhaps recommendation, how I should set the Son yoptimal (color, contrast, black level, etc.)?

Have had this projector for about 16 months & can more than recommend it hammer:
had never played with the idea before was more of a spontaneous purchase at 2 o‘clock at night
After the projector was there I connected it to my PS3
I still know exactly that only for INFO I paid 1499,- € at that time. Tip
the picture was amazing (of course it still is today) although I have a RauFaaaser wallpaper the picture was 1a / & still is today.
buy me next week an electric screen 221x149 for ONLY 159,- € incl. remote control. Color will NOT be flatter or brightness 100% the same as before.
I have my HD receiver Humax PD1000, PS3, X Box360 Elite & DVD player connected to the projector via an HDMI distributor PERFECT the picture the colors especially the volume of the device TOTALLY quiet quasi whisper mode.it is now as I said about 16 months past & have a slack 1259 hours on it I have to say that he just ran at least 200 really only because I was just amazed at the picture that means a lamp lasts approx. with a lot of use almost 3 years that means just under 100,-€ a year to put back that is really not the world for this fantastic picture ABOUT PREMIERE/HD/Discovery HD Fantastic details in documentaries as well as in live soccer games the madness & Digital TV as well as DVD & for the gamers simply the madness comes PRICELY no one currently with 100% the operation is very simple.I can‘t imagine any buyer telling me that he is dissatisfied when he has bought this device I was very skeptical myself at the beginning but it was more than worth it 1000%.I think the picture will be a bit better next week when the screen comes woHow.if you have any questions write me at email address: marvinratzel@web.de answer any question about this or consoles ect. if you need any help write me.my tip BUY! zack zack who is not to blame himself

Have the thing and the picture on DVD is incredible! Star Wars Episode 3 --> Colors are amazing. Together with 5.1 sound (Logitech Z5500) and a good DVD player (Denon 1940), it‘s a real pleasure. DVB-T via the computer is even sharp. (16MB graphics card - yes, there is such a thing!) Buy it if you can still get it!

... had 2 DLP‘s before. Black level was much better. Unfortunately RBE. Then tried the Sony. Not bad - but the surroundings should be pretty dark. Just can‘t really decide between Eco or Normal mode yet. The normal mode has a much more intense overall picture. The Eco mode produces a better black - but in my opinion it devours too much sharpness ...

The best value for money
I‘ve had this projector for 4 weeks now after having an HP 6110 and a BenQ770 and can only confirm that this projector is worth the money. I have connected a BlueRay player, inserted Cars and can only repeat that I have never seen such good and bright colors with high sharpness at the same time. Even normal DVDs are displayed very well. The operating noise is barely audible in Cinema mode, but increases slightly in Dynamic mode. However, the picture quality is then also better.

If you mount the beamer on the ceiling (overhead) how far away is the picture from the ceiling ? Is it only the distance from the beamer to the ceiling or an offset down 15% or so ?

Highly recommended
The AW 10 really has a great picture with great colors and is sufficiently bright.
The whistling sound in Eco mode, which many people report, went away after I
set up the projector overhead (ceiling projection) and had it in operation for about 30 hours. Now it is almost noiseless!

Great product
After a long search, I decided on the SONY - and I haven‘t regretted it. I think in this price range (€ 710.- /Jan.2008) it‘s a top product.
+ great colors / good contrast / fast start up/shut down / almost noiseless in ec mode!
- quite big / at certain picture settings high noise (beeping) power supply
(by slightly changing the picture settings e.g. brightness the noise disappears)
Can only recommend the projector - GREAT CINEMA for little money !

Incredible.
Have had the projector for 2 months. HD via the XBOX360 produces an incredibly sharp and detailed picture. Can only recommend the projector. Even DVDs connected via components are perfectly upscaled and optimally displayed. I still can‘t believe that you can now get such quality for so little money. An absolute buy. Oh yes, my old projector used to disturb me in quiet passages of the movies. Today my DVD player is louder than this projector!!!!
