The basic data of the Sony VPL VW100 HD (Ruby) includes 800 ANSI lumens, a resolution of HDTV 1920 x 1080 as well as a contrast of 15000:1. In operating mode, the installed projector lamp offers a lifespan of 2500 hours. To facilitate room installation, the device is equipped with mechanical lens shift and additional keystone correction. Precise setup distances can be determined in the Projection Calculator. Regarding projection size, the value of 800 ANSI lumens allows for an image width of up to 287 cm in darkened environments. In rooms with ambient light, the image width should be correspondingly reduced to a maximum of 191 cm. For media input, video signals up to 1080P are supported. For integration into professional environments, an RJ45 connection is available for network control and remote maintenance. A look at the data sheet confirms a very subtle fan noise for the projector at just 22 decibels. This model dates back to 2005 and is no longer part of Sony's current product range. The time has come - I own this thing - plus a Cinemateq POP Plus HD and a WS Spalluto multi-format screen. The result: simply super!!!!! Hopefully the battle between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will be settled quickly to get the last bit of quality out of it.

Final comment
The HDMI upgrade for the Picture Optimizer Plus took some time and the first software version did not work with the 1080p resolution. Now that these problems have finally been resolved, the following conclusion can be drawn: The combination of Sony Ruby plus Picture Optimizer Plus is simply addictive!!! As I wrote in my previous post, I had the opportunity to watch the iRobot in 1080i HD VHS. I had this movie on DVD with me - there is no difference to see!!! Other samples: Star Wars Episode III, Serenity, Gladiator, Finding Nemo, to music Ambra Child of the Univers, Jarre in China and Schiller Life. Only Schiller Leben failed in terms of picture quality. The source material was in 4:3 format and therefore had to be stretched accordingly for the 16:9 picture, which meant a further loss of resolution. This team gets 200 points from me.

Ansi does not equal Ansi
I am simply thrilled! I already knew that the picture was great from a demonstration of the device. My only fear was the brightness as I previously had a 4100 Ansi projector and was used to bright images, but what I see now is simply stunning! Although the projector was adjusted by my dealer beforehand and trimmed for brightness, the picture brightness is now in no way inferior to my previous "4100 Ansi projector", I can‘t believe it but it‘s true. The colors and the ability to display light and dark images are simply phenomenal.

Simply sensational!
I was able to marvel at this projector at one of the authorized specialist dealers and I have to say I‘m amazed! When playing real HDTV material (iRopot with 1080i), there‘s nothing more to say... However, I can‘t award full marks because the internal scaler does a good but not outstanding job when playing SDTV material. There will probably be another appointment in June 06 when my scaler has received the HDMI upgrade (scaled up to full 1080p resolution and then also via digital interfaces!) I‘ll let you know again afterwards.

I‘m thrilled
I bought the Ruby a few weeks ago and am delighted. It is far superior to my previous Sony VPH D50QM projector in terms of resolution and colors. I‘m particularly pleased that I can‘t hear any fan noise. The price of the projector is definitely justified. The VPL VW 100 HT is highly recommended.
