With the VPL HW55ES /, Sony offers a 3D-Laser-SXRD projector that features 1700 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 120000:1 and a resolution of HDTV 1920 x 1080. In operating mode, the installed projector lamp offers a lifespan of 5000 hours, achieving a lifespan of 6.8 years when used for 2 hours a day. This model is available with either a black or white housing. For precise setup, the device features a lens shift mechanism that allows for optical image shifting. To plan the individual installation location, a look at the Projection Calculator is recommended. A look at the light output reveals: The 1700 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 419 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 279 cm. For media input, video signals up to 1080P as well as 3D are supported. A look at the data sheet confirms a very subtle fan noise for the projector at just 21 decibels. The projector was released in 2013 and is officially no longer distributed by Sony. Unfortunately not problem-free
The projector has a sharp picture with good moving image display. The fan is quiet and the black level is good: Many devices flicker in monotonous picture areas in ECO mode, power supply units often make beeping noises, which unfortunately detracts considerably from the enjoyment.

Reference class!!!
Had the Sony HW30ES for 1.5 years now and it was one of the best of its time in terms of the picture in 2D and 3D and I thought, what could be better about the Sony HW55?
Now I‘ve owned the Sony HW55ES since November 2013 and what can I say, the thing blows you away!
The picture is brighter and sharper, I use the HW55 in a living room, walls, ceiling and floor are bright and still a bright and sharp picture.
Reality Creation, which has been taken over from its big brother, is awesome if you don‘t overdo it with the settings.
In 2D you can‘t hear the projector at all and in lamp high mode (3D) it‘s hardly audible either.
The color reproduction and black level was already top notch with the HW30 and is brilliant with the HW55!
From my point of view, I can only warmly recommend the projector, but everyone should make up their own mind and have the individual devices demonstrated in a home cinema studio.

Sony VPL HW55ES - a piece of madness!
Also, I‘ve had the projector for a good month now and I have to say, it‘s quite something! Just to give you an idea, I‘ve owned the following Full HD projectors so far: Benq W9000, Benq W20000, Planar 8130, Epson TW9000. All good projectors in themselves, especially the Planar was my personal favorite (see comment here at hcinema.at). The Sony is the first projector since then that has consistently impressed me. Sharpness (with RC on), colors, contrast and black level as well as the brightness are really fantastic for 2900 street price. In combination with a Stewart Firehawk, an absolute wonder weapon! The only thing I don‘t find so exciting is 3D, slight crosstalk and only average brightness result in a 1/2 star deduction! Otherwise a top device, which gets far too little attention because of the in-house 4K Bemaer! Absolute buy recommendation
