The LED Z500 is a 3D-DLP projector by MediaLy, whose specifications list 490 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 1000:1 and a XGA 1024 x 768 resolution. The manufacturer specifies a durability of 50000 hours for the LED light source, which translates to 34.2 years with 4 hours of daily use. To make performance data comparable based on the lumen specifications, we calculated an approximate ANSI lumen value. A look at the light output reveals: The 490 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 113 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 75 cm. The projector was released in 2014 and is officially no longer distributed by MediaLy.

The projection is okay. A smaller screen width would result in a brighter image.

Great description of the Z500 LED projector, but with a
200 watt LED and a significantly better brightness than
those so-called LED Z500 projectors, which are obviously available in very different versions, with the same housing structure.
The MediaLy Z500 LED projector has clear advantages and
disadvantages:
Plus:
High brightness reserves with a picture diagonal of
e.g. 6.5 m and still optimal picture brightness and contrast.
Depending on the version with and without analog TV tuner, whereby
the TV pictures can be viewed relatively well, i.e. clearly sharp picture display when
using the HDMI connection. However, this also offers VGA input and AV connection, but here the picture display suffers somewhat in the
sharpness or the picture display becomes somewhat blurrier, depending on the resolution, i.e. significantly worse via VGA and AV connection and native resolution of 1280 x 1024 and 60Hz, in contrast to HDMI use at this resolution significantly
sharper picture display.
The simple USB connection is also good, as you can easily play back movie clips stored on a USB stick or an external hard drive and no additional device is required, as the internal media player can play almost all formats. The brightness, contrast, color, sharpness and sound volume can also be easily adjusted via the remote control or directly on the device using the keyboard. You can also manually adjust the image sharpness using the built-in lens. Furthermore, the
beamer is very easy to clean, as it has a
removable permanent filter, which is made of plastic and is easy to wash. Cleaning is required every 14 days or every month, depending on usage and the
dust load in the surrounding area. The 200 watt LED
offers a relatively long service life of approx. 30,000 to
50,000 hours. Nevertheless, the manufacturers of these light sources should also explain to customers and point out that this should not be equated with maintaining the original very bright luminosity of the LED lamps used, as the luminosity of the LED lamp gradually decreases during the operating time or use. If it was dazzlingly bright on the first day,
after one or two years it will look quite
different. This is why less powerful LED projectors
without brightness reserves start to produce an increasingly darker image at the same distance from the screen (I use
the opposite side of the wall with simple woodchip
tape or white paint) and it then becomes more and more
tiring to want to watch such dark images. Incidentally, the device is very well
processed. So much for the positive features.
Negative features;
The device only shows a consistently very
sharp picture up to approx. 2.5m. Beyond that, although not noticeable in video films, blurring gradually increases at the edges. Nevertheless, you can still watch movies comfortably up to approx. 6.5 m
picture diagonal quite well and without any problems in terms of the
illumination
of the picture. The stereo
performance of the sound display is still
sufficient in small rooms, but you can also connect an
amplifier system here or, for example, a 5.1 (7.1) system via laptop
etc., as I
did.
The fan noise can be described as disturbingly loud for everyone in the initial phase, as there are much quieter fans with the same cooling capacity. However, I also felt the same way here, when watching movies, this annoying noise increasingly fades into the background. However, it becomes even quieter and inaudible if you use an amplification system, which is not really necessary. I
emphasized this part only because the
technical values regarding fan volume are clearly
above the manufacturer‘s specifications of 29 db. In addition,
you
must
at least give the device credit for its
clearly
recognizable
disadvantages that these
devices are sometimes offered at under €200. Nevertheless
there are cheaper, quieter fans that actually reduce the
noise level to and below 29 db. I did the same with another smaller LED projector with a 50 watt LED that I had bought previously, and you can hardly hear it at all during operation.
What is also to be regarded as a negative, although the manufacturer has entered it in the setup, there is also the possibility of installing new firmware, but there is obviously no access for customers, at least I have searched in vain for such offers on the Internet so far. This is also due to the fact that these projectors are basically
noname products, which are offered by completely different
providers with the same design, sometimes only very slightly optically changed
or different strong lamp LED, with and
without analog TV tuner, with and without Android system,
modified lens system. So you don‘t really know who actually builds these devices or whether new firmware updates can be obtained from this actual manufacturer, although these devices can be updated with new firmware via USB input. So
you
are
not
informed
about
this
and
usually
you
can
not
find
any
information.
In
conclusion,
I
would
say
from
my
experience
with
other
beamers,
which
are
supposed
to
have
up
to
4500
lumens
as
LED
beamers(but
many
only
have
a
180 Watt
LET lamp)
that
are
much
darker
than
the
Z500
with
a
200
WATT
LED
lamp
and
only
2800
lumens,
that
those
who
have
to
be
careful
with
their
money
are
well
served
with
this
device.However,
you
have
to
compromise
with
the
fan
noise,
if
you
don‘t
have
a
home
sound
system,
and
only
when
watching
the
movie,
the
fan
noise
fades
into
the
background. So it‘s
not really a problem.
