Based on DLP technology, the Planar PD7170 projects images in a Homecinema environment, with technical specs listing 2000 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 10000:1 and a HDTV 1280 x 720 resolution. According to Planar, the included lamp lasts up to 2500 hours. For precise setup, the device features a lens shift mechanism that allows for purely optical image shifting. A major advantage for professional installations is the ability to use interchangeable lenses, allowing the projector to adapt to highly varied projection distances. Which optic is required for a specific case can easily be calculated via the Projector Calculator. Looking at practical performance, up to 454 cm can be illuminated with 2000 ANSI lumens in dark environments. Once daylight is in the room, the image should ideally be no wider than 303 cm. For media input, video signals up to 1080P are supported. Since entering the market in 2008, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model.
